Watery Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal (Thermomix)
A light, soothing bowl of watery oatmeal with tender pieces of cooked apple and warm cinnamon—made hands-off in the Thermomix so it won’t scorch. The apple cooks down just enough to perfume the whole pot while still keeping some bite. This version is intentionally loose and sippable; you can finish with extra hot water to get it exactly as “watery” as you like. Great for quick breakfasts and easy to scale up for meal prep.
Total time: 27 minutes
Yield: 2 servings
Ingredients
- 120 g rolled oats (not instant)
- 800 g water, plus more to thin at the end
- 1 medium apple (about 180–220 g), peeled or unpeeled, cored and cut into 2 cm chunks
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp fine salt
- 1 tsp lemon juice (optional, brightens apple)
Instructions
- Add the apple chunks to the mixing bowl. Chop 3 sec / Speed 4 for small pieces (you want 5–10 mm bits, not purée). Scrape down.
- Add 100 g of the water (just a splash to help it steam), plus the lemon juice if using. Cook 6 min / 100°C / Speed 1 (Reverse). The apple should smell fragrant and look slightly translucent at the edges.
- Add the rolled oats, remaining 700 g water, cinnamon, and salt. Cook 10–14 min / 90°C / Speed 1 (Reverse). It’s ready when the oats look plump and the surface turns a little glossy; it should pour off a spoon rather than mound.
- Taste and adjust: for extra-watery oatmeal, add 50–200 g hot water and mix 10 sec / Speed 2 (Reverse) until it’s as loose as you like. If it’s too thin, cook 2–4 min longer at the same settings.
- Serve hot. It will thicken as it sits—so if you’re holding it, keep a kettle nearby and loosen with a splash of hot water right before eating.
Notes
Vitamix for cutting the apple: it’s doable, but easy to overdo. If you try it, use a small batch, add a splash of water, and pulse 1–3 times max—stop while pieces are still visible (otherwise you’ll get apple purée). Thermomix chopping is safer for chunks. Oat choice: rolled oats keep a clean, light texture. Steel-cut works too but needs more time and water. Storage: refrigerate up to 4 days; reheat with extra hot water to restore the watery texture.
