Overview

Chef Chop ("we," "us," or "our") operates the chefchop.app website and service. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our AI cooking assistant.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and any profile information you choose to provide, such as dietary preferences or cooking skill level.

Conversation Data

We store the conversations you have with Chef Chop, including your questions, the recipes and guidance we provide, and any feedback you give (such as thumbs up/down ratings). This helps us improve recommendations and remember your preferences.

Usage Data

We collect standard usage information such as pages visited, features used, and session duration. We use PostHog for privacy-friendly product analytics. To understand how the product is used and to diagnose problems, we may also record how you interact with our pages (such as clicks, scrolling, and navigation). Anything you type into form fields is masked and never captured in these recordings.

How We Use Your Information

• Personalization — To learn your cooking preferences, dietary restrictions, and skill level so recommendations improve over time.
• Service delivery — To provide AI-powered cooking guidance, recipe suggestions, and meal planning.
• Product improvement — To understand how people use Chef Chop and make it better.
• Communication — To send you service-related messages and occasional product tips or re-engagement reminders. You can unsubscribe from non-essential emails at any time. We will never sell your email address.

AI and Your Data

Chef Chop uses large language models to generate cooking guidance. Your conversations may be processed by our AI providers to generate responses. We do not use your personal conversations to train AI models. Aggregated, anonymized usage patterns may be used to improve our service.

Memory

Chef Chop keeps a set of memories about your cooking so you do not have to repeat yourself. These are short facts — for example "allergic to peanuts," "owns a Dutch oven," or "dislikes cilantro" — saved as you chat with Chef Chop while signed in, or imported by you from another AI assistant. They cover food allergies and dietary restrictions, dietary identity (such as vegetarian, vegan, or kosher), ingredients you like and dislike, the equipment in your kitchen, nutrition goals, who you cook for, your schedule, and how you want Chef Chop to help. Some of these are sensitive — a dietary identity can reflect a religious, medical, or ethical commitment — and we treat them with the same care as the rest of your account data. Chef Chop also generates a short "About you" summary from them.

Your memories are stored with your account and are visible only to you. They are not public and are not shared with other users. As with your conversations, they are included in what we send to our AI providers to generate a reply, and we do not use them to train AI models.

Settings → Memory lists the memories Chef Chop is confident about and lets you edit or delete any of them individually. Deleting a memory means Chef Chop stops using it. "Clear all memories" on that page deletes all of your memories — including any not shown on that page — along with the "About you" summary generated from them. Deleting your account removes them as well. Deleting a memory does not delete the conversation it came from; conversation data is covered above.

There is currently no way to turn memory off. If you are signed in and chatting with Chef Chop, it will keep notes. What we offer instead is that your memories are listed in one place and can be deleted at any time. If you would like an off switch, email us at hello@chefchop.app.

We keep your memories until you delete them. There is no automatic expiry.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS). We use encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. We follow industry best practices for securing your personal information.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers necessary to operate Chef Chop (hosting, analytics, AI processing), and only as needed to provide the service.

Your Rights

You can:

• Access and download your conversation history
• Review, correct, or delete the memories Chef Chop keeps about you, at Settings → Memory
• Update or correct your account information
• Delete your account and associated data
• Opt out of analytics tracking

Referral and Attribution

We record how users discover Chef Chop — for example, which link they clicked, which website referred them, or which campaign they came from — and associate this information with their account. We use this data solely for product improvement, to understand which channels bring users who get the most value from Chef Chop.

Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication, session management, and attribution (preserving how you found Chef Chop across sign-in redirects). We use PostHog for privacy-friendly product analytics on all pages, including public pages, without requiring a consent gate. PostHog does not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site trackers.

Children's Privacy

Chef Chop is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting a notice on our website or sending you an email.
